A retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant, Michael brings more than 14 years of military leadership experience in operations, logistics, and training, where he developed a reputation for building high-performing teams, leading through complexity, and delivering results in mission-critical environments.
Following his military service, Michael transitioned into the behavioral health field, where he currently serves as a Care Coordinator and Life Skills Instructor with Aspire Indiana Health. In this role, he works closely with individuals experiencing severe mental illness and substance use challenges, applying evidence-based approaches such as motivational interviewing and life skills development to support long-term recovery and independence. His professional background also includes serving as a Licensing Manager for a therapeutic foster care agency, where he oversaw compliance and supported more than 40 families across a 15-county region.
Michael possesses a master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, aligning his academic focus with his passion for leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and community impact. He is also the founder of Rising Phoenix Coaching, a professional coaching service he uses to help others succeed in their goals.

Dorsey Smith Jr., MBA, CFIS, PAC, serves as Vice President of the Board for Care Cuts, Inc., bringing extensive experience in real estate, business consulting, leadership development, and community advocacy to the organization. Based in the Atlanta metropolitan area, Dorsey has built a multifaceted career centered on strategic growth, relationship-building, and creating opportunities that strengthen communities and empower individuals.
A licensed real estate broker and investor, Dorsey has worked across multiple sectors including residential real estate, business consulting, and organizational leadership. His professional background reflects a strong entrepreneurial mindset combined with a commitment to ethical leadership and service excellence. In addition to his real estate expertise, he holds an MBA and multiple professional certifications focused on negotiation strategy, artificial intelligence, and business leadership.
Throughout his career, Dorsey has remained actively engaged in community and volunteer initiatives. His prior service with organizations such as the Cobb Association of REALTORS® included work focused on diversity, equal opportunity, and poverty alleviation. Jonah Gjertson serves as Treasurer for Care Cuts, Inc., bringing a strong background in finance, accounting, operational analysis, and nonprofit governance to the organization’s leadership team. Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jonah has built a professional reputation around solving complex business challenges through strategic financial insight, analytical thinking, and collaborative leadership.
Professionally, Jonah is affiliated with Blue & Co., LLC, where he has continued to develop expertise in financial management, operational improvement, and data-informed decision-making. A graduate of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, he graduated with distinction and was recognized among the top students in his class for academic and professional excellence.
In addition to his professional career, Jonah has demonstrated a consistent commitment to community service and nonprofit leadership. Prior to joining Care Cuts, he served on the boards and finance committees of several Indiana nonprofit organizations, including The Rosewood Initiative (Oregon) and Storytelling Arts, and the Eron Gordon Foundation. His experience overseeing financial strategy, governance, and organizational development provides valuable stewardship to Care Cuts’ mission of supporting individuals and families experiencing hardship.
As Treasurer, Jonah supports the financial integrity and long-term sustainability of Care Cuts by helping guide budgeting, accountability, strategic planning, and responsible growth. His combination of analytical expertise, nonprofit leadership experience, and passion for community impact strengthens the organization’s ability to serve the Muncie community and expand its mission-driven initiatives.

Jodi Carroll serves as Board Secretary for Care Cuts, Inc., where she brings a unique blend of military discipline, academic expertise, and a deeply rooted commitment to service. With nine years of honorable military service, Jodi developed a strong foundation in leadership, organization, and accountability—skills that continue to inform her work in both professional and community settings.
Jodi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Deaf and Communicative Disorders, equipping her with a comprehensive understanding of human development, communication, and the diverse needs of individuals and families. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, further strengthening her ability to support and advocate for those with communication challenges.
Known for her genuine compassion and selfless nature, Jodi is driven by a deep desire to serve others. She consistently places the needs of others above her own, embodying the mission and values of Care Cuts through her actions and leadership. Her attention to detail, organizational strength, and heart for service make her an integral part of the board’s effectiveness and the organization’s continued growth.
As Board Secretary, Jodi ensures accurate governance, maintains organizational records, and supports the board’s operational integrity, all while contributing to a culture centered on dignity, empathy, and community impact.
